This course covers how to identify components and correct procedures, describe functions and purpose, and troubleshoot as it relates to identification and operating sequence of the basic parts of a reciprocating compressor; name, purpose, and airflow for each piece of equipment in a reciprocating compressor system; lubricated and non-lubricated compressors; drain traps; regulation of compressor capacity by inlet valve lifters and cylinder clearance pockets; compressor start-up procedure; operating observations; and compressor shutdown procedure.
At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the operating sequence of the basic parts of a reciprocating compressor
- Label the parts
- Describe lubricated and non-lubricated compressors
- State correct start up and shutdown procedures
- Demonstrate this knowledge on a written, final exam including problems
